The Freeride Board 

This board is made to be easy, tough and versatile.  It comes with a carbon box that can fit a Deep Tuttle, Tuttle and pro-box. The long nose rocker and large bevel rails make the touch-downs soft. The tail rocker makes your transition and ride more comfortable.  The large deck pad and the three footstrap positions with 5 holes gives ample adjustments.  The size of the board gives the rider plenty of volume to get planning in light winds and bouce back up duting touch down.

Construction

All of the boards are made in house in Raglan, New Zealand.

We did a lot of testing different constructions to determine what was the best for a confortable freeride board.  We found that Innegra and fiberglass were the toughest and most confortable. The board is 7.5 cm thick with a 28kg/m3 eps foam core with 64kg/m2 and 100kgm3 high-density foam reinforcements around the box and under the riders heels.  The glass and Innegra mix give it the right flex and toughness without sacrificing weight and reducing cost.

Both top and bottom layer wrap around the rails making them 6 layers thick of Innegra and fiberglass to take the harness hook impacts. The Tuttle box is reinforce with high density foam around it on the top and bottom, with large high density pads being placed under both heels to prevent damage. The deck is also covered with a large pad to protect your board and make it confortable when riding strapped or strapless.

The boards are painted with Altex boat paints that are tough and made for marine environments.

The Foil

The J Shapes freeride foil was designed to be tough, playful and glide effortlessly in all conditions.  The one piece prepreg carbon construction gives the peace of mind to jump, wave ride, cruise and race in all conditions.  It is balanced to cruise in very light winds and rip in stronger winds. It foils up at around 9 knots and easily hits 25 knots and go to the upper 20’s in total comfort.  This foil was made for all conditions so you can push the limits or cruise.  

Design

The ease of the J Shapes Freeride foil comes from its 58cm by 14cm front wing. It is profiled on both sides f the front foil to give you lift early and not giving too much lift when speed increases.  Regardless of the speed, your weight is evenly distributed, meaning you do not need all your weight forward when hiting top speeds.

The front foil is 9cm high meaning that it is very stable in all direction and allows the rider to lean and carve into turns without spinning out.  The fuselage from front wing to tail is 65cm giving you good balance.  The rear foil is 35cm by 8.5 to give you a strong balance point and stabilizer.  The conection to the mast is done through a mini tuttle box, 120mm x 25mmx 19mm and screws through two interchangeable 18.5 mm stainless inserts. 

This gives an extremely strong connection to the mast. If you ever damage the threads you can just pop out the inserts and put in new one.  The fuselage was beefed up to 35mm x 30mm to properly encase the insert and reduce tortion.  If the foil as too much tortion it will become unstable at high speeds.  

Tacking and jibing

The larger front foil and profile will greatly improve any riders tacking and jibing.  This foil will make you foil through your transition by giving you the constant lift and stability that you need to nail your turns.  When tacking it will give you a long lift to finish out your upwind carve.  When jibing it will not bounce you off or drop you dwon when you switch your feet, with just a bit of speed you will be able to glide through your jibes.  

Jumping And Wave Riding

This is not for everyone but soon enough you will never want to part from your foil and will want to take it into the waves or the air.  It is bomb proof so jump it and have fun, practice your foiling rolls or ride a swell and wave. The sensation of the wave taking over the power of the kite is amazing.  

Construction

All of our construction is done in house  in Raglan, New Zealand and our prepreg carbon is custom made to our specifications in Australia. The foils are made of over 50 cuts of twill, Biaxial and uni directional carbon to maximize strength.  The core is made of close cell foam to reduce weight.  The foil is assembled and cooked in aluminium moulds. All the carbon pieces are cut by a CNC machine to reduce imperfections and optimize the layout.  The prepreg ensures us that all the carbon is wetted out and the high temperature curring ensures a tough product.

The foil can be finished in white Durapox or UV Sunshield.  The advantage to  the white Durapox is that it does not heat up in the sun and protects the carbon from UV’s that are tough in NZ and Australia.  It also allows the owner of the foil to have a race finish like the America’s Cup boats. Also, if you hit or scratch your foil you can sand it or build it back up very easily.  The UV Sunshield gives you beautiful carbon finish with a UV coat.

Mast options

This foil combined with either the 50cm or 95cm will be a foil that can do it all that you will not out grow and will last you a long time. 

The 95cm Mast

The 95cm mast is your "go to" mast, it can do it all in any conditions.  It will allow the rider to lean hard upwind, float you down wind without touching down and help you glide through your transitions.  The mast flares at the top and bottom of the mast to reduce torsion and reinforce the connection points.

It comes with a Deep Tuttle(Recommended) or Tuttle box at the top and mini Tuttle at the bottom fits easily into the fuselage.  The four stainless inserts are custom made to our specification and are interchangeable if they are damaged.  They are the 12mm diameter so if you are traveling you can easily find a spare if you damage one.

The mast is made of over 30 pieces of prepreg carbon with a close cell foam core.  It is made in house in Raglan, New Zealand.  Almost all the pieces of carbon run the entire length of the mast so that the top and bottom inserts are going through the same piece of carbon.   It is made with a mix of twill, Uni-directional and Bi axial prepreg carbon This mast is made to play so you don’t have to worry about your gear, just focus on your riding.  The leading and trailing edge of the foil are solid carbon and epoxy so if you end up hitting something it can easiy be fixed with a little epoxy putty.  

Finish

The mast can be finished in white Durapox or UV Sunshield.  The advantage of the white Durapox is that it does not heat up in the sun and protects the carbon from UV’s that are tough in NZ and Australia.  It also allows the owner of the foil to have a race finish like the America’s Cup boats. Also, if you hit or scratch your mast you can sand it or build it back up very easily.  The UV Sunshield gives you beautiful carbon finish with a UV coat.

The 50cm Mast

This is the best option for learning easily or riding in shallow spots.  The short mast makes learning to foil easy.  With the 50cm foil you are usually able to recover from your mistakes and stay on the board.  Or if you live in a shallow spot and want to ride in light winds or just have some fun. “This is the best way to start foiling fast”

The only draw back to the short mast is that it does not give you a lot of vertical travel, so if you want to foil dry you will need to the longer mast.  We have tried all lengt h from 40cm to 110cm and find 95cm to be the most versatile.  Anything below 90 will impair your upwind and down wind performance and not give you enough margin of error to foil comfortably.
